Israël wants its own quantum computer in 3 years

This funding will be used to establish a new quantum computing consortium that includes defense companies and startups. The goal of the consortium is to determine which technology is better, trapped ions or superconductors, and to create a working Israeli quantum computer within three years. The consortium is part of a larger government effort to promote research and development in quantum computing. In 2019, the government announced a national quantum development program with a budget of 1.2 billion shekels (about $340 million) to support human capital and knowledge in this field. In July of this year, the government also allocated 100 million shekels (about $28 million) to set up the first Israeli quantum computer, a project led by the company Quantum Machines.

Quantum technology has the potential to revolutionize various fields such as computing, cyber defense and offense, communications and radars. A quantum-based communications system is significantly more immune to enemy eavesdropping, while a quantum-based radar can detect targets far more sensitively. The technology can also create unprecedented levels of cyber security and provide cyber attackers with new capabilities. Quantum computing replaces the traditional 1 and 0 computer binary system with a system that calculates the chances of 1 and 0, which allows for faster and more efficient computing and makes computing time 1,000 or 10,000 times faster, according to experts. Additionally, when combined with artificial intelligence, machines could learn on their own at the speed of quantum computing.
